Let’s face it, life will always have a way of reminding you that despite good intentions, ambitious goals and best laid plans, you cannot always control the journey.

The current climate in which we are all living is one of rapid change and heightened uncertainty.  For many, the unpredictability of future outcomes creates a myriad of thoughts, feelings and emotions, including: worry, fear, concern, distress, anger, unease, to name a few.

So, how can you self-regulate in a seemingly unregulated environment?

Acknowledge what you can control. While it may not be in your power to change specific external circumstances, situations, or experiences, how you respond versus react to those events - and the actions you take - are always yours to control.

Accept that which you cannot control.  Trying to influence other people’s beliefs, opinions or actions is energy not well spent. Acceptance is not giving in but rather giving way to space and clarity to confidently create what’s next for you in the moment in which you are living.

Trust your inner knowing.  When your life plan is met with unexpected changes or challenges, it is okay to push the pause button, slow down and make conscious choices that will best serve YOU and those with whom you engage.

A favorite iPEC Foundation Principle states, “Each moment describes who you are, and gives you the opportunity to decide if that’s who you want to be.”

How do you show up and respond when the going gets tough? What would need to change for you to rise and thrive in those life moments?
